Plastic Pollution Workshop
Join us for a deep dive into the methods of plastic pollution research. Steve Allen PhD (https://https//scholar.google.fr/citations?hl=en&pli=1&user=aTctjZcAAAAJ— ) will host an informal but intensive 10 days workshop aboard our expedition vessel “NORA Simrad” and will give you a head start on research methods for not only atmospheric micro and nano plastic but plastic pollution in general and associated chemicals. Discussions on analytical techniques and their limitations will be among the many topics.
We plan to have discussions on the basics of choosing sampling methods and analytical methods for the different environmental samples. We will examine the different techniques and the pros and cons of each one with regard to research questions. On board for the trip I hope to have a spectroscopy expert from the university of Birmingham. A colleague I work with on micro and nano plastics in the Arctic on Svalbard.
This is a trip of a lifetime sailing the Seto inner sea of Japan and fully geeking out with like minded people. A safe space to talk science all day every day while enjoying beautiful Japanese islands and culture. A CPD certificate will be issued so you can claim it on your taxes (depends on your country) and tick the box for your university CPD requirements. (Workshop attendees are responsible for ensuring the cpd credits are acceptable for their University as regulations change per country. Cpd credits will be issued under UK regulations https://www.open-cpd.com)
